Ironically, it was a Portland friend who introduced me to Plantasies outside of Monroe last fall. If succulents and unusual plants interest you, it is a short and lovely jaunt down to the end of Bellfountain Road, west of Monroe and south of Alpine. Go to where Bellfountain Rd ends and take the Y in the road to the left; it becomes Cherry Creek Road, and directly on your left you will see some hoop houses. Here, John and Lori Nero and their calm and welcoming animals, are growing an abundance of succulents, cacti, and houseplants. They have been at it for years in Wisconsin and California before relocating to the Willamette Valley. Both are extremely knowledgeable and patient with questions. They are open on the weekends, but you can call for another time, 541-802-6195. I will bet your sweet cherry tomatoes that you will not be disappointed.
